This project involved the design for renovations at 90 Wentworth Street, a College of Charleston building which is utilized for student housing. The existing 3-story building totals approximately 3600-square feet and is an historic Charleston Style Single Residence. Engineering services included fire alarm, fire sprinkler, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical engineering design.

Renovations on the first and second floors included the laundry, bathroom, and kitchen areas of the building. The second and third floor renovations included HVAC replacement, and plumbing upgrades.

This project included the design for fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical services for an approximate 19,000 square foot, two-story, new facility located on the Charleston Southern University Campus.  The building houses locker rooms, conference rooms, offices, and support spaces for the Athletic and Kinesiology departments.

 Design challenges included meeting ventilation requirements for extensive locker room / shower spaces, while maintaining proper temperature and humidity set-points inside building.

This Indefinite Delivery Contract was for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects for the Trident Technical College, Charleston, SC. Some of the projects included HVAC upgrades to the Business Technology Building 200, and the Math and Science Building 300 at the main campus.

Academic Computer Center
This project was part of an IDC to provide electrical, and mechanical engineering design services in order to replace the existing air handling units in the Academic Computer Center Server Room. Preparation of construction documents and support through the construction phase were provided. The new units were designed to meet the needs of future expansion in the interest of developing a modern campus server room with future anticipated growth and the requirements of the additional equipment heat loads.

James A Rogers Library
This project was part of the IDC to provide mechanical engineering services and analysis reports to investigate the HVAC and asbestos problems occurring in the James A. Rogers Library.

The new 26,800 square-foot facility Leadership Center for Charleston Southern University is located at the center of the campus and features classrooms, lecture halls. conference and seminar facilities.

Constantine Engineering provided fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical design services through construction administration. Systems included chilled water HVAC with ice storage for energy savings, energy efficient lighting, and building wide automation system tied into Owner management backbone.

The 22,000 square foot renovation of the Culinary Institute of Charleston provides an attractive, modern, and efficient space for culinary arts training.  This advanced culinary arts center complements the recently completed center at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus.  The renovation allowed for an increase in student capacity to 1,500 and provided many new features to faculty and students.  Some of the many features include:  a 50-seat restaurant, production kitchen, training kitchen, baking lab, nutrition lab, mixology classroom, gallery, 100-seat auditorium with demonstration kitchen, pre-function, and administrative and support offices.  This $7- million dollar project included interior renovations, as well as additions and new façade.  Engineering services included plumbing, mechanical, and electrical design, bidding and construction phase services.

College of Charleston

This project involved design for new fire sprinkler systems to serve three dorm buildings for the College of Charleston.  The first two buildings are adjacent single style historic homes, 3-stories each located at 15 and 17 St. Philip Street.  Both are occupied as sorority student housing.  The third building, a 3-story building also used for student housing, is located at 300 Meeting Street.

 The 15 and 17 St. Philip Street buildings are each 3,000-sf gross and required new fire line taps/meters and risers.  The 300 Meeting Street building is 2,140-sf gross and required only a new riser.

Clemson University Dominion Energy Innovation Center

Mechanical and electrical engineering design services provided for new AHU’s utilizing the two existing 95-ton air cooled chillers, which CEA provided mechanical services for in 2018, repurposed to provide space cooling.  The space includes a 15-MW generator (approximately 20,000-sf in area and 55-ft high), and 7.5-MW generator (approximately 15,000-sf in area and 40-ft high).  Services provided through the construction administration phase.

 
 

Charleston School of Law

This project involved relocating the library.

CEA provided fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical engineering design and drafting services.

Trident Technical College, Nursing Sim Lab Upgrades

TTC desired to improve the quality and efficiency of simulation-based learning experiences utilized in the TTC Nursing program, both in-person and virtually.  The third-floor seminar room was converted into a large group sim room with the ability to run between 1 – 4 sim sessions at a time. 

 CEA provided plumbing, mechanical, and electrical engineering design services continuing through the construction phase.

College of Charleston Bell Building

The Bell Building was built in the 1930’s to house the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company switchboard operating system.  The building now houses classrooms for the Lowcountry Hall of Science and Math as well as College of Charleston faculty and administrative offices.

 This project involved the mechanical and electrical design for HVAC equipment upgrades serving the fifth Floor Data Center for the College of Charleston. The College desired to provide secondary and tertiary cooling backup systems for the Data Center while replacing HVAC equipment that is at or near the end of useful life.

Charleston Southern University

Charleston Southern University is one of South Carolina’s largest accredited, independent universities, enrolling approximately 3,400 students.

This project involves the analysis and design for replacement of one of two air-cooled chillers and one or both hydronic boilers serving The Science Building at Charleston Southern University, North Charleston, SC. Also included are evaluations of the overall building HVAC operations with the goal of improving efficiency through equipment and controls upgrades and modifications.

Constantine Engineering provides mechanical and electrical engineering design and drafting services as necessary to deliver sealed construction documents. 

College of Charleston, Craig Hall

Design for extension of an existing fire sprinkler and alarm system at the College of Charleston Craig Hall Dormitory building.  The project is for the 2nd and 3rd floors of approximately 43,400-sf.

Chicora Elementary School

New 2-story elementary school of approximately 87,000+-square feet including ancillary and support space . The project was designed as a LEED Silver certification with the USGBC. The design includes shared community use space and houses pre-K through 5th grade, which includes support functions such as art, science, media center, music, multi-purpose dining facilities, and administrative spaces.

CEA provided plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering and design services.

This project involved upgrades to the campus wide HVAC systems at Dubose Middle School.  It included space-by-space infrastructure evaluations and analysis, and life cycle cost comparisons, for the design of the HVAC replacement throughout the school for 275-tons (existing).  Areas included:

This project involved the design for additions and renovations to the existing school located in Summerville, SC, for approximately 12,000-sf of new classroom additions.

CEA engineering services consisted of prescriptive fire protection (sprinkler and alarm), plumbing, mechanical, and electrical engineering design services.

This project involved adding an emergency egress for Northwoods Middle School in North Charleston, SC to the North End of Wing C for second floor classrooms C223, C225A, and C225B. 

CEA provided fire protection, mechanical, and electrical design services.

Charleston Collegiate School

The project was for a private school located on Johns Island for grades Pre-K through 12.

CEA provided mechanical engineering services in order to correct problems with water intrusion into the gymnasium.

North Charleston High School

CEA provided mechanical engineering services for the analysis of the chilled water piping insulation at the school.

Winyah School

National Register of Historical Places – 1988

Complete rehabilitation of an abandoned school building, including the Theater, Classrooms, Toilets, etc. to be used as a Medical Surgical facility, as well as commercial lease space. Services included structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection design.

Murchison School

Work on this project included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services for the renovation of a historic 3-story, 23,000 square foot building.  This building is being used as a ninth-grade public school.
